Hei Darja, thank you for taking the time to talk with us about your style, Scandinavian style and sustainable fashion – few of our favourite subjects!

Here we go 🙂

  1. You are recognized as the 7th most influential person in fashion in Norway, and one of the top Scandinavian influencers, recognized for your strikingly beautiful features, as well as for a contemporary, eclectic, yet elegant and feminine style.

If you were to address someone that doesn’t know you, how would you describe your style?

Well, I think is difficult to narrow down my style, as it can vary a lot.  My personality and my mood influence what I choose to wear to a great extent. Imagine how challenging this approach makes my packing for travels J

I love the minimalistic style as well as the playful and colorful trends. I also tend to layer my outfits, mixing fabrics and color tones.

But the bottom line is that my outfits are quite effortless, comfortable and elegant.

  1. The million dollar question that everyone is trying to answer :

What is “Scandi style” ? What is the essence of the Scandinavian fashion style ?

I think it is hard to define the Scandinavian style because it really varies a lot from one country to another. But is important for us to feel comfortable and laid-back at the same time, as we dress sophisticated in a relaxed way – in my opinion you can find this as key fashion trends in Norway, Sweden, Denmark. In my opinion every Scandinavian woman loves her fitted jeans, knits and all the great basics you can mix and match.

  1. What are your top tips for styling knitwear?

I think a good knitwear goes with everything. I always bring my cashmere knit with me when I traveling. I love to pair it up with some good fitted jeans or some loose linen pants, and with a pair of heels I feel effortless chic. A great selection of knitwear is really the alpha and omega in my wardrobe — during summer I use it over a floral dress or I tend to layer it up during the cold months in Norway.

  1. Sustainable fashion is a hot topic, but the studies show that is still more of a buzz concept, and not close to replace the omnipresent fast fashion.  What are your thoughts on sustainable fashion, do you think we will see soon influencers that will collaborate only with sustainable companies? If you would decide to wear and style only sustainable brands, do you think the current options on the market would limit your styling freedom ?

I think we all need to educate ourselves on how we can be more conscious in our choices. We need to consume less and buy smarter. We do know that we have innovating technology to produce sustainable fabrics and to run a much more effective supply chain. It is really impressive to see quality shoes and bags made of pineapple, apple peel leftover or fish skin. It dos exist!

But I do think that the industry needs to be held accountable and we do need regulations from the political point of view, the governments need to take actions as well. I also think it is very important to have in mind that we all can do SOMETHING. If everyone would start with baby steps we would come a long way in a short amount of time.

I do think it is a lack of sustainable options and I also believe it would limit my styling freedom. On the other side I could easily make tons of great outfits using second hand and vintage clothing. With that said I do believe that the entire industry is getting more aware and we do have small improvements. Brands are taking action and we see eco-friendly alternatives in the industry.

  1. Who is your all time style icon ?

I do not have one style icon  — I get inspired by different women (and men) in various ways.

  1. If you were to have a design collaboration, what would you choose to design? Jewelry, a handbag, shoes, a dress?

Shoes! I am a shoe lover and I know exactly what I love. With that said I would really love to design the perfect basic wardrobe consisting a flawless blazer, cashmere knit, t-shirt, jeans, coat and so on. The perfect,  timeless pieces.
