“Nocturne” Italian Silk Scarf

The works of artist Codruța Cernea explore human fragility, insomnia, the relationship with motherhood, exile, adaptation, and nostalgia—themes that take on a new dimension in contact with the fine texture of Ami Amalia‘s creations.

The power of the encounter between image and fiber lies in the way these two worlds translate one another, mutually infusing each other with corporeality and memory: art becomes wearable, and objects become subtle extensions of deeply personal experiences.

In a city often too harsh, this collaboration opens a temporary island—a ghost island where fragments of dreams, skin, and memory meet.

An invitation not merely to wear an object, but to inhabit a state.

“Nocturne” (2017)

This work is part of the Future Nostalgia series (Viitoare Nostalgie), exhibited in 2019 at Mobius Gallery in Bucharest.

“The works in this series depict spaces—some reminiscent of spacecrafts—where solitary human beings continue their existence, far from the devastating consequences that irrational environmental destruction has had on Earth. It is a fictional scenario, marked by a sense of longing for direct contact with nature, with life, and with the physical world as we experience it today.

The series offered me the opportunity to explore themes that concerned me at the time: the human-nature relationship, the intersection between labor and artistic practice, combined with my attachment to a slow rhythm of life, reflective time spent in isolation, and a fascination with architectural spaces.

Nocturne is a reflection on the choices some of us might make in such a context, and on the role that artistic practices can play in preserving both our humanity and mental well-being.”
