The works of artist Codruța Cernea explore human fragility, insomnia, the relationship with motherhood, exile, adaptation, and nostalgia—themes that take on a new dimension in contact with the fine texture of Ami Amalia‘s creations.

The power of the encounter between image and fiber lies in the way these two worlds translate one another, mutually infusing each other with corporeality and memory: art becomes wearable, and objects become subtle extensions of deeply personal experiences.

In a city often too harsh, this collaboration opens a temporary island—a ghost island where fragments of dreams, skin, and memory meet.

“Isychia – from the Greek ησυχία – evokes silence, peace, and isolation.

The concept of a “phantom island” refers to islands that appear on maps but do not exist in reality or cannot be precisely located. These are often the result of cartographic errors, navigational mistakes, or misinterpretations of explorers’ accounts.

The works in the series describe a fantastic territory marked by ritual, where mushroom-like structures recall the continuous flow that connects us to the broader web of life. They offer an image of resilience and adaptability inherent in the microstructure of life, transcending the boundaries of individuality and moving toward the embrace of a collective consciousness. At its core, it is a story about the individual’s adaptation to their surrounding environment.

The Yellow Room is the first painting in the series and proposes a possible interior within this fantastical world. The clear and direct title may be a reference to Henri Matisse’s The Red Studio.”
